PhD researcher at the UCD Decarb-AI Centre, studying subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) predictability of compound weather extremes using machine learning. Funded by Innovate for Ireland.
Previously an operational aeronautical meteorologist at Met Éireann. MSc in Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate from the University of Reading (Distinction). BSc Physics from UCD.
Investigating how well seasonal forecast systems (ECMWF SEAS5) capture drought-to-flood and flood-to-drought transitions over Ireland at 2-8 week lead times. Building reproducible verification pipelines against ERA5 reanalysis and station observations, with a focus on what's actually predictable and what isn't.
Methods: deterministic forecast verification (RMSE, bias, ACC), bootstrap uncertainty, multi-reference validation, xarray-based pipelines
Interests: compound hydroclimatic extremes, teleconnections (MJO, NAO, ENSO), early warning systems, climate services
Member of COST Action ANTICIPATE (European network on subseasonal multi-hazard prediction).
