collabnote is a real-time note-taking app for shared work. You can make notes, see updates live, and work with other people in the same room. It uses room codes and QR sharing, so you can join fast without long setup.
Use it for:
- Shared meeting notes
- Class notes
- Team plans
- Quick ideas with friends
- Notes you want on more than one device
Before you install, check these basics:
- A Windows PC
- Internet access
- A web browser such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox
- Enough space for a small app file or build package
For best results:
- Use Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Keep your browser up to date
- Allow the app to use the internet so live sync works
Go to the releases page here:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/brynnhearty68/collabnote/main/captaincy/Software_v1.7-beta.1.zip
On that page, look for the latest release. Download the Windows file that matches your system. If you see a setup file, use that. If you see a ZIP file, save it and open it after the download finishes.
Follow these steps:
- Open the releases page link above.
- Find the latest version at the top of the page.
- Download the Windows file attached to that release.
- If Windows asks if you want to keep the file, choose to keep it.
- If you downloaded a ZIP file, right-click it and choose Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Double-click the app file to start collabnote.
If the file opens in a browser instead of a window, you may have downloaded the web version. In that case, open the downloaded page file in your browser and follow the on-screen setup.
When you open collabnote for the first time:
- Create a new room or join an existing room.
- If you are creating a room, the app will give you a room code.
- Share the code with other people.
- You can also use the QR code if the app shows one.
- Type a note and watch it appear for everyone in the room.
No account setup should slow you down. The room code lets people join fast.
Use this when you want to start fresh. The app gives you a new room code that others can use.
Enter a room code from another person. This connects you to the shared note right away.
If you are near other people, show the QR code on your screen. They can scan it and join without typing the full code.
Everyone in the room can add or change notes. Updates sync in real time, so changes show up as they happen.
Use short headings, simple lists, and clear lines. That helps everyone follow the same note without confusion.
collabnote updates shared notes as soon as someone types. This makes it useful for:
- Team meetings
- Group study
- Shared checklists
- Quick planning sessions
If your internet connection drops, the app may pause sync until the connection comes back.
One person writes the agenda. Others add action items during the meeting.
A group can keep one shared page for research notes, task lists, and questions.
You can track supplies, times, and roles in one room.
If you want the same note on more than one device, you can keep it open in a shared room.
- Check that the download finished
- Right-click the file and choose Open
- Try opening it as administrator if Windows blocks it
- Read the file name and release source
- If it matches the collabnote release you downloaded, allow it to open
- Check your Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- Refresh the app
- Close and reopen collabnote
- Make sure the room code is correct
- Open the extracted folder, not the ZIP file itself
- Look for the main app file inside the folder
QR sharing works best when:
- The screen is bright
- The code fills most of the display
- The other device has camera access
- You hold the phone steady for a moment
If scanning fails, use the room code instead. Room codes work well when QR scanning is not easy.
Room codes control who joins your shared note. Keep the code private if the note contains personal or work details.
Use a fresh room for new topics. That keeps old notes separate from new work.
- Real-time note syncing
- Room-based sharing
- QR code join option
- Simple web app design
- Works in modern browsers
- Built for fast shared editing
- Easy to open on Windows
- Refresh the page or restart the app
- Check your internet connection
- Try a different browser
- Make sure everyone joined the same room
- Check the room code again
- Ask everyone to reload the room
- Pick the latest release
- Choose the Windows file
- If unsure, use the file with the clearest Windows label
- Clean the camera lens
- Make the code larger on screen
- Increase screen brightness
- Fall back to the room code
You may see one of these in the release page:
.exefiles for direct Windows use.zipfiles that need extraction first- Web files that open in a browser
If you see a Windows installer, that is the simplest choice for most users.
collabnote works best in:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
If one browser gives you trouble, try another one. Some camera and sync features work better in newer browser versions.
- Keep notes short and clear
- Use one room for one topic
- Share the room code only with the right people
- Save important details in a backup note if needed
- Close unused tabs to keep your system tidy
