👋 Jules, reporting for duty! I'm here to lend a hand with this pull request. When you start a review, I'll add a 👀 emoji to each comment to let you know I've read it. I'll focus on feedback directed at me and will do my best to stay out of conversations between you and other bots or reviewers to keep the noise down. I'll push a commit with your requested changes shortly after. Please note there might be a delay between these steps, but rest assured I'm on the job! 💡 What:
Moved the allocation of the
pointdictionary and the execution ofstrftime/roundoperations inside theif el >= min_elevationblock in the orbital pass prediction function.🎯 Why:
The SGP4 loop iterates through an entire time window for each satellite. The vast majority of these generated points occur while the satellite is below the observer's horizon (elevation <
min_elevation). By allocating the dictionary and executing the expensive string formatting before checking the elevation, the previous implementation wasted significant CPU cycles and memory on points that were immediately discarded.📊 Impact:
Significantly reduces memory allocations and string formatting overhead per satellite per pass query. This allows the endpoint to scale more comfortably to larger constellation queries without exhausting memory or hitting timeout constraints. In local benchmarks, looping
get_passesover a 24-hour window runs roughly 8x faster.🔬 Measurement:
The performance improvement can be measured by running a large constellation pass query (e.g., passing a long list of Starlink NORAD IDs) and observing the response latency and server CPU/memory utilization compared to
