🚨 Severity: HIGH
πŸ’‘ Vulnerability: LocalJsonStore allowed writing files outside the baseDirectory using .. in the key.
🎯 Impact: An attacker or a malfunctioning agent could write or overwrite arbitrary JSON files on the filesystem, potentially leading to privilege escalation or data corruption.
πŸ”§ Fix:

  • Added explicit check to reject key segments containing . or ...
  • Implemented robust boundary validation using path.relative on the resolved absolute path to ensure it remains within the baseDirectory, preventing directory prefix bypass.
    βœ… Verification:
  • Added packages/documents/src/security.test.ts with test cases for various traversal patterns.
  • Verified with a reproduction script and the full test suite.
  • Ran Biome linting and TSC type checking.

- Prevent path traversal by rejecting '.' and '..' segments in storage keys.
- Ensure resolved paths remain within the base directory using path.relative.
- Add security unit tests for LocalJsonStore.
- Record critical learning in the security journal.
