The line that you removed in the pull request was added in a very recent release to resolve a regression that was introduced when the plugin transitioned from Apache httpclient 4 to httpclient 5. The change won't be accepted into the plugin without major justification to explain it.

I've closed the issue that prompted this pull request because it was submitted against a very old plugin version on an unsupported operating system.
