Thesis title

Utilizzo della metodologia BIM (Building Information Modeling) e degli standard openBIM per le analisi e il monitoraggio delle prestazioni termiche di edifici storici

Abstract

This research aims to investigate issues related to BIM (Building Information Modeling) and HBIM methodologies, namely the application of BIM to historic heritage, for monitoring the thermal performance of historic buildings through the use of IoT (Internet of Things) sensors and the integration of dynamic data within the information model.

The objective is to assess how an approach based on openBIM standards and open-source tools can support processes of analysis, visualization and decision-making in the fields of conservation and building management.

The study examines the interoperability among the main standards of the BIM/openBIM ecosystem and their use in operational activities such as thermal analyses, continuous data monitoring and Facility Management, with particular attention to extending the use of BIM throughout the entire building life cycle, from maintenance to performance assessment, both in the case of new constructions and historic heritage.

Within the field of maintenance activities, the research proposes the development of an online working environment that allows conservators and maintenance staff to report issues found in buildings, assign priority levels and support more effective and timely intervention planning.

In order to compare measured data with users’ actual perception, this environment is integrated with a web application dedicated to the collection of perceived thermal comfort data.

With regard to defining remedial interventions for the issues identified, in relation to the constraints affecting the building under analysis, the study explores the use of the information model as a tool for representing such limitations, guiding design and maintenance choices in a way that is consistent with conservation requirements.

The scalability and flexibility of the proposed workflow are verified through its application to heterogeneous case studies, including both highly monitored newly constructed buildings and historic buildings, demonstrating the potential of the openBIM/IoT approach as a tool to support the management and conservation of the built environment.
