Confirmed "Updates for GNOME 42" commit works in Ubuntu 22.04 with GNOME Shell 42.9. The GNOME 45 commit does not work with GNOME Shell 42.9.
Suggest we start creating release branches for the different versions of GNOME Shell to make it easier for users to checkout the version they need.

Working with GNOME 45 after API changes.
I had to bin the set-up-new logic, as the tool it relies upon has been removed (gnome-desktop-item-edit).
