Hello,
I have a set of proposed patches for bugs 533 and 534. I hope that this is okay. I was told on IRC that this is one way to submit a patchset and was okay. I pulled in the mccabe/weekly and merged it before submitting this request.

2a5d361 - changes to address the two bugs referenced above.
b79c280 - This is a change that I had to make so that the system would compile on my system and use libpng-1.4 as opposed to 1.2. You will not want to include these changes.
