Commentators also aren't allowed to make judgements on matches (i.e. if they are to be replayed, restarted or on any scoring decisions) - this was in SR documentation for previous years... :)

I think this is implied as it isn't explicitly mentioned as something that a commentator should do.

I can imagine people saying that the docs should be as explicit as possible...

This will be described in the Judge role when that content is written.

Given that the docs below do mention a related thing which the commentator shouldn't do (announcements to volunteers), I think it's reasonable to include here things which the commentator doesn't do.
I don't think we should assume that the commentator has read the docs for other roles.
How about (in place of the last sentence below, possibly as a separate paragraph):
As a commentator your role is to communicate to the competitors. Note that making decisions about the outcome of matches and communicating to volunteers are the responsibilities of other roles.

why was this page removed? XD

I don't think an entire extra page is required for a role that can be summarised in a single sentence.

what if we were to fill the rest of the page with 🐝 ???
(on a serious note, you'd be surprised. SR managed to use more than a sentence)

Yes, much more than a single sentence that we do not require at this point in time. We are currently focusing on documenting the core roles that are likely to be on a rota.

ditto the roving helper comment...

This is because the information has yet to be found and will likely follow in a later PR after discussion at a meeting.
The SR docs on Shepherding are not really that great for us as they are written for a much larger scale event with lots of bureaucracy .

Why are we duplicating the content rather than just linking to the existing docs? |
|
There's no existing SourceBots docs on this topic I believe? We shouldn't be relying on third party docs that we cannot modify to describe our organisation, and I can't find any other docs we've written on this. |
|
What other docs on roles? If you mean SRs docs for this, I have several justifications for this:
|
|
If that's the case, then our documentation should be far more detailed than it currently is, and there's a lot more work to do. I wouldnt be happy shipping these role guides until theyre actually complete. |
|
Hasn't our approach in general been that it's better for some documentation on a topic to exist rather than none? Currently no SourceBots documentation exists on the topic of competition roles, so this should at least be a good start. |
|
This is the volunteer docs (and should behave like a wiki), so I think it's okay to ship information which needs more detail added than not ship anything at all, assuming there's a trello card or something saying more detail should be added |
|
I don't think it's a good idea to link to SR's docs as it will contain incorrect information in the context of SB |

This section is also bold on the other individual pages for roles.

I would rather we use h2 for things like this

This is content, not a heading. h2 would be inappropriate.

| Some roles are scheduled on a rota, generally these are the more important roles that are required for the competition to function. | ||

I suggest we state that this isn't an exhaustive list, and that there are some roles (tech deck people, event announcer etc) which arent documented.

| In the role of score entry you will be stationed at a desk near to the arena/staging area. When a score sheet is given to you by the match scorers, you will enter the scores into a computer and then file the score sheet in a folder. |

Will they really be by the arena? They almost certainly want to be somewhere out of the way and quiet.
Historically this means that they have been on the Cube balcony.

This information was taken from the student robotics documentation on this role. I am happy to change it if needed.

At newbury, the scoring desk is next to the arena, yes. In the cube, it's often on the balcony, near the tech desk etc. I suggest we keep it there, so the cube floor is free.
On a related note, is there actually a need to say where the position is going to be in this? The entry people will be near the score entry desk, which will be wherever, we don't need anything more than that.
Based loosely on the information I could find in the SR docs.
