Upgrading to Spring Framework 3.x

Note that the 3.0.x and 3.1.x lines have been retired already, with no support whatsoever available anymore, in favor of the 3.2.x line (EOL is December 31 2016, see this blog announcement).

Please consider upgrading to a more recent version.
