Short Abstract: The software industry has reached an inflection point with AI tools achieving a breakthrough in 2025. This talk explores how "agentic engineering" fundamentally changes how we build software, shifting from writing code to orchestrating intelligent agents that can build almost anything.
Long Abstract: In April 2025, something remarkable happened in software development. After years of incremental improvements, AI coding assistants suddenly became good enough to build production software. This talk shares a personal journey from burnout to rediscovering the joy of creation through AI-powered development.
We'll explore how the convergence of raw model intelligence, sophisticated tool use, and agent frameworks created a tipping point that transforms developers from violinists into orchestra conductors. You'll learn why "vibe coding" evolved into "agentic engineering," how to leverage tools like Claude Code and Codex effectively, and why languages are becoming implementation details in this new paradigm.
Through real examples of building complex applications with 99% AI-generated code, we'll examine what it means to be a "full-breadth developer" in 2025 - someone who combines technical expertise with product vision to build software at unprecedented speed. The talk addresses common misconceptions, shares practical workflows for parallel agent orchestration, and explains why simple code beats clever solutions when working with AI.
Whether you're skeptical or curious about AI's role in development, this talk provides an honest, practical perspective on adapting to a world where you can truly "just do things" - building software that would have taken weeks in just hours or days.

Peter worked with iOS since the inception of the iPhone and is an experienced speaker both on highly technical and management topics. He bootstrapped PSPDFKit in 2011 and made a successful exit in 2021. Prior to PSPDFKit, he worked as a Senior iOS Engineer at a startup in San Francisco and taught iOS and Mac development at his alma mater, the Vienna University of Technology. After a sabbatical, he's now a full-time Open Source builder, leveraging AI to create innovative solutions and sharing his journey at steipete.me.
