merge from kalvdans fork
non-floating point datasets within a group hierarchy.
create intermediate groups during dataset creation.
The preprocessor macros à la HAVE_HDF5 which used to be inherited from config.log via oct.h, are not available anymore. This is a dirty hack, to find out if octave was compiled with HDF5 or not.
