Fork PRs never receive repository secrets, so api-token arrives empty and the action's pre step fails the required-input check before tests run. The pre step runs even when the workflow step has an if condition, so gate via a placeholder token instead: with an invalid token the action only warns and continues. Pushes to main still plant canaries with the real token. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
