What is Proteus?

Proteus is a simple tool intended to allow developers to create and employ reusable chunks of content, for whatever language they’re using.

Initially, Proteus was intended to be used to generate HTML. Consider this example, generated by an earlier version of Proteus, which forms the Proteus homepage.
