"If it's dumb and it doesn't know it — I'll teach it."
I'm a Dutch IoT enthusiast who genuinely believes that most devices out there are just one firmware flash away from being useful. Making dumb things smarter is not a job for me — it's a passion, a Saturday afternoon, and sometimes a rabbit hole that ends at 2am with a soldering iron in one hand and a datasheet in the other.
- IoT is my hobby and my happy place. From Zigbee sensors to ESP chips buried in random appliances, if it has electricity running through it, I'm curious about what it could do.
- Automation nerd. If something can be automated, I want to know why it hasn't been yet — and then do it anyway.
- Dumb devices deserve better. Off-the-shelf gadgets with locked-down firmware and zero local control are an invitation, not a barrier. Cloudcutter, ESPHome, and a healthy curiosity go a long way.
- Home Assistant is home base. Most of what I build ends up there: custom Lovelace cards, ESPHome configs, automations, and integrations.
| Project | What it does |
|---|---|
| ha-bbq-card | Custom HA Lovelace card — round gauges for BBQ + probe temps, presets, snooze |
| ha-bbq-thermometer-AT-02-esphome | ESPHome config for the AT-02 BLE BBQ thermometer with probe disconnect detection |
| ha-afvalwijzer-card | Lovelace card for Dutch waste collection schedules with urgency colours |
| esp8266_p1meter | DSMR5 P1 smart meter → MQTT via ESP8266 |
I spend a lot of time standing on the shoulders of giants — reading community threads, learning from forks, building on the hard work of people I've never met. This is my small attempt to give something back. Every repo here is something I built for myself that might save someone else an evening of reverse engineering.
Happy forking. 🍴 Use it, break it, improve it, make it your own.
