This is excellent research and reporting by @devdavidejesus and I support the eventual removal/replacement of these discontinued devices. However, I recommend being cautious on the timing, and delaying a reasonable amount of time hopefully until the new devices are listed. One of the major advantages of the bitcoin.org wallet listings over other resources is the near-binary nature of the listings (recommended vs not) with very little editorializing, ratings, and rankings which makes it particularly valuable to new or novice users that don't have the knowledge or experience to interpret in-depth reviews and complex comparisons; users may just want to know if it is safe. On the other hand, this binary indication does not provide much information on why a wallet has not been added or why it was removed. In the past, when wallets have been removed (for being obsolete in some way) that action has sparked discussions external to bitcoin.org about why a wallet was removed, and there has been past speculation that wallets have been removed because of undisclosed security issues or vulnerabilities. I would recommend holding off on the actual removal to see whether new devices will be listed. I suspect this is being a bit over cautious, but there seems little harm since the above research suggests that these devices continue to be maintained and supported (just not available). |

@crwatkins Thank you for the thoughtful feedback and the historical context. The concern about external speculation around removals makes complete sense, and the binary nature of the listings is indeed a strength that should be preserved. Happy to hold off on the actual removal. I'll keep this PR open but paused while engaging with the Trezor team about potentially listing the Safe 3/5/7 models. Once those are in, a coordinated replacement would make the transition clear and avoid any ambiguity. Same reasoning likely applies to #4665 (Ledger Nano S), I'll leave that paused as well pending vendor engagement on the current Ledger lineup. Appreciate the guidance. |
Remove discontinued Trezor One and Trezor Model T
Closes partially: #4662
Summary
As of January 8, 2026, Trezor Model One and Trezor Model T are no longer available for purchase through Trezor's official e-shop. Both models have been replaced by the Trezor Safe product line (Safe 3, Safe 5, Safe 7).
Trezor has confirmed that both devices remain safe to use and will continue to receive critical security updates until at least 2036, with basic maintenance until at least 2031. However, the devices are no longer sold by the manufacturer and new users following bitcoin.org's recommendation would be unable to purchase them through official channels.
Since bitcoin.org serves as a resource for new users looking to choose a wallet, listing hardware wallets that are no longer available for purchase from the manufacturer may cause confusion. Removing these listings and replacing them with the current Trezor Safe models (in a separate PR) would better serve visitors.
